Join arenaflex – Pioneering the Future of Global Connectivity
arenaflex was born from a bold vision: a world where humanity can stay connected from every corner of the planet, no matter how remote or extreme. By harnessing cutting‑edge satellite technology, advanced embedded systems, and relentless engineering talent, arenaflex is turning that vision into reality. Our mission is to deliver high‑speed, low‑latency internet to millions of users—teachers in the Amazon rainforest, scientists at the South Pole, digital nomads traveling in RVs, emergency responders, commercial airlines, cruise ships, and families living in underserved regions. As we continue to expand the most extensive satellite constellation ever built, we need world‑class engineers who are driven to solve the toughest technical challenges and shape the next era of global communications.
Why This Role Matters
As a Principal Embedded Software Engineer – Customer Hardware at arenaflex, you will be at the heart of the products that bring connectivity to the world. Your work will power the software that runs on custom‑designed hardware deployed to millions of customer kits, enabling reliable internet wherever it’s needed most. This is a rare opportunity to lead the design, development, and deployment of software that directly impacts everyday life for diverse communities worldwide.
Role Overview
In this senior technical position you will lead the creation of robust, fault‑tolerant embedded software for arenaflex’s consumer hardware platform. You will collaborate across hardware, manufacturing, test, and operations teams to deliver end‑to‑end solutions that scale to millions of devices and trillions of data points. Your expertise will guide the architecture of telemetry pipelines, deployment tooling, security hardening, and user‑experience enhancements that define arenaflex’s market leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain highly available, low‑power embedded software that runs on custom processors, ARM and RISC‑V cores, and specialized modem silicon.
- Lead architecture and design reviews, ensuring code quality, scalability, and maintainability across the full product lifecycle.
- Create rapid‑prototype platforms to validate design concepts, quantify performance limits, and de‑risk critical path items.
- Partner with arenaflex’s manufacturing facilities to translate software designs into production‑ready hardware, supporting in‑house build and test processes.
- Implement continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines that automate build, test, and deployment for millions of remote devices, leveraging virtualization and hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) simulations.
- Invent and deliver new diagnostic, monitoring, and telemetry tools that collect, aggregate, and analyze massive streams of device data in real time.
- Develop secure firmware update mechanisms and harden the system against adversarial attacks, ensuring compliance with industry‑standard security practices.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams—including product management, UX design, and network operations—to translate user needs into elegant hardware‑software solutions.
Essential Qualifications (Basic Requirements)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related STEM field **and** a minimum of 10 years of professional software engineering experience; or 15 years of proven software engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
- At least 8 years of hands‑on development with C, C++, Go, Python, or Rust, preferably in embedded or low‑level environments.
- Demonstrated experience building, debugging, and shipping software for real‑world embedded devices that operate autonomously for extended periods.
- Strong foundation in Linux development for both general‑purpose processors and microcontrollers.
- Proficiency with version control (Git), build systems, and automated testing frameworks.
Preferred Skills & Experience (Nice‑to‑Have)
- Track record of delivering production‑grade firmware for large‑scale consumer hardware deployments.
- Deep knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, IPv6), radio‑frequency fundamentals, and signal processing concepts.
- Expertise in performance profiling, memory optimization, and low‑latency code paths.
- Experience designing secure boot, OTA (over‑the‑air) update strategies, and threat‑modeling for distributed systems.
- Creative problem‑solving mindset, with the ability to translate abstract requirements into concrete, testable designs.
- Familiarity with hardware description languages (HDL) or system‑level simulation tools is a plus.
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to work extended hours or weekends when project timelines demand rapid issue resolution or critical deployments.
- Compliance with U.S. export regulations (ITAR). Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or otherwise eligible to obtain the necessary authorizations.
Compensation, Benefits & Perks
Salary Range: $200,000 – $270,000 USD per year (base salary), commensurate with experience, expertise, and market factors.
