Seeking an experienced Insurance Billing & A/R Specialist with strong knowledge of commercial insurance, ERISA plans, and denial management for a physician owned private practice. North Carolina applicants preferred Applicants residing outside North Carolina must qualify as an independent contractor (1099) and meet all IRS requirements for 1099 classification and will not be considered as W2 employees This is a remote, W2 part-time position 20-25 hours weekly. You will be required to set consistent weekly hours during clinic business hours and maintain that schedule. This is not a flexible, work-anytime position and inability to meet periodically during the physician/owner's clinic hours and availability to discuss billing will not be a fit for this position. Availability and work hours are approved by the employer. 1099 contractor will be considered only for established business owners/contractors who have already demonstrated experience already working in this role. Agencies and 3rd party billing companies will not be considered. Expectations You must be available for real-time communication during scheduled hours. You are expected to integrate into the clinic’s workflow and billing systems. Responsibilities: • Submit clean insurance claims accurately and timely • Monitor claim status and follow up on unpaid or denied claims • Investigate and resolve claim rejections, denials, and underpayments • Perform insurance A/R follow-up on aged claims • Prepare and submit appeals as required, including medical necessity appeals when applicable • Communicate professionally with insurance payers regarding claim status and resolution • Review EOBs and ensure correct reimbursement and adjustments • Maintain accurate, audit-ready documentation of all billing actions • Navigate the EMR and shared systems to locate claims, documentation, and correspondence • Identify recurring payer issues or denial trends and report to leadership • Support additional billing-related tasks as assigned to maintain revenue flow • Strong attention to detail and documentation discipline • Ability to work independently without constant oversight • Strong follow-through and ownership of assigned claims • Comfortable working with insurance portals, payer calls, and appeals processes • Organized, reliable, and process-driven • Ability to quickly learn and navigate EHR systems, insurance portals, and billing software with minimal supervision Qualifications • Minimum 3 years medical billing experience • Strong knowledge of commercial insurance and ERISA required • Demonstrated experience reducing A/R • Experience with appeals and payer escalation • EMR billing experience required • High accountability and detail orientation • Able to work independently Active certification verification will be required Professional references will be required prior to hire Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour Expected hours: 20.0 – 25.0 per week Application Question(s): • Have you personally prepared and submitted ERISA appeals that resulted in payment?
