Position Overview
We are seeking a experienced Family Law Litigation Paralegal to support matters from initial filing through trial, with a strong emphasis on dissolution filings, custody and support issues, motion practice, and discovery. Applicant must have experience with California Family Law and Procedures.
This is a litigation-heavy, hands-on role requiring a paralegal who can take ownership of cases, manage deadlines, and drive matters forward efficiently under attorney supervision.
The position will begin as part-time, with a clear opportunity to transition into a full-time, long-term role based on performance, workload, and firm growth.
The ideal candidate is highly proficient in:
• Initial family law filings (dissolution, custody, support)
• Motion drafting and hearing preparation
• Discovery management and enforcement
• Trial preparation and litigation support
Experience in personal injury litigation is a strong plus, particularly for candidates familiar with discovery coordination and damages documentation.
Core ResponsibilitiesInitial Case Setup & Filings (Dissolution, Custody, Support)
• Prepare and file:
• Petition for Dissolution / Legal Separation / Nullity
• Summons
• UCCJEA (FL-105)
• Initial Requests for Order (custody, visitation, support)
• Prepare:
• Proofs of service
• Filing packets and e-filing coordination
• Assist clients with:
• Income & Expense Declarations (FL-150)
• Schedule of Assets and Debts (FL-142/FL-160)
• Ensure compliance with California Rules of Court and local procedures
Case Lifecycle Management (Intake → Trial)
• Assist with intake, file setup, and document collection
• Maintain litigation calendars, deadlines, and procedural tracking
• Monitor case posture and ensure timely progression
• Coordinate filings, service, and follow-up actions
• Support attorneys from case inception through resolution or trial
Motion Practice (Heavy Emphasis)
• Draft, revise, and finalize:
• Requests for Order (RFOs)
• Responsive declarations
• Supporting declarations and exhibits
• Points & Authorities (as directed)
• Prepare advanced motions, including:
• Motions to compel
• Discovery motions
• Sanctions motions
• Continuances and procedural motions
• Prepare complete motion filing packets and coordinate hearings
• Ensure compliance with applicable procedural and local rules
Discovery (Heavy Emphasis)
• Draft and propound:
• Form Interrogatories
• Special Interrogatories
• Requests for Production (RFPs)
• Requests for Admission (RFAs)
• Review and organize discovery responses and productions
• Track deadlines and enforce compliance
• Draft meet and confer correspondence
• Assist with:
• Motions to compel
• Discovery dispute preparation
• Identify deficiencies and escalate issues proactively
Financial & Evidence Management
• Organize and analyze:
• Income documentation
• Tax returns
• Bank and financial records
• Assist with preparation of:
• Asset and debt summaries
• Support-related documentation
• Prepare exhibits and evidentiary packets for hearings and trial
Trial & Hearing Preparation
• Prepare:
• Hearing binders
• Trial notebooks
• Exhibit lists and evidence packets
• Assist attorneys with:
• Trial readiness
• Evidence organization
• Case strategy implementation
• Coordinate logistics for hearings and trial
Client Communication
• Communicate with clients regarding:
• Filing requirements
• Discovery responses
• Case updates and deadlines
• Assist in gathering required documentation
• Reinforce attorney strategy and next steps
(Plus) Personal Injury Litigation Support
• Assist with discovery drafting and responses in PI matters
• Coordinate:
• Medical records and billing
• Lien documentation
• Damages summaries
• Support litigation file preparation and trial readiness
Billing & Timekeeping Requirements
• Demonstrated experience working in a billable-hour law firm environment
• Ability to:
• Accurately track and record billable time
• Distinguish between billable and non-billable tasks
• Meet or work toward monthly billable hour targets
• Draft clear, detailed, and compliant billing entries
QualificationsRequired
• Must be qualified to work as a paralegal under California law (Bus. & Prof. Code § 6450)
• 2+ years of family law litigation experience
• Strong experience in:
• Initial family law filings
• Motion drafting
• Discovery management
• Experience in a billable law firm environment
• Knowledge of California family law procedures and court rules
• Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines independently
Preferred
• Bilingual (Spanish-speaking strongly preferred; significant client interaction in Spanish)
• Experience in personal injury litigation is a plus
• Experience with Clio, Lawmatics, or similar systems
• Experience in high-volume litigation environments

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
