About the Role: Registered Nurse (RN) - Clinic Oncology
We are looking for an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to fill a remote, full-time position as a Phone Triage Registered Nurse for the Oncology Clinic at Inova Alexandria Schar Cancer Institute - Mark Center. As a valued member of our team, you will provide knowledgeable and caring clinical practice and care coordination to patients with a variety of cancers and hematologic conditions. Your expertise and compassion will be essential in delivering safe and therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way, incorporating differences into the provision of care and conducting all patient care in a patient/family-centered manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide phone triage and assessment to patients, determining the level of care needed and coordinating with the healthcare team to ensure timely and effective treatment
- Collaborate with medical oncologists, advanced practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients
- Conduct patient and family education, addressing concerns and providing emotional support throughout the continuum of care
- Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others, respecting and understanding the roles and responsibilities of other clinical disciplines
- Determine processes for delivery of care, utilizing direct patient/family communication, technology, and collaboration with other healthcare team members
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient interactions, care plans, and treatment outcomes
Requirements and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- At least 1 year of Registered Nurse experience, with a strong preference for RN Oncology experience
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (AD), with the requirement to complete a BSN within 5 years of start date if hired with an AD
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification through the American Heart Association
- A current RN license or eligibility to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia as an RN
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in phone triage and care coordination
- Knowledge of oncology and hematology principles, treatments, and protocols
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams
- Proficiency in electronic medical records and other healthcare technology systems
