Job description: Job Title: Registered Nurse Department: Medical Reports To: Nursing Manager FLSA: Non-exempt Job Function: Clinical Classification: On call Schedule: On-call, as needed to fill an 8-hour shift between 8:00am-6:30pm (Monday - Friday) Location: Onsite (Valley Center, CA) SUMMARY As part of our on-call pool of RNs, this position will fill in for our full time nurses on vacation or leave of absence. Provides professional nursing assessment and initiates nursing care to patients presenting themselves for care. Determines the urgency of the patients presenting complaints and designates triage category. Treats patients in medical office, as directed by Physician, by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Makes accurate patient assessments and assigns a visit priority. 2. Initiates diagnostic and therapeutic measures as indicated by protocols. 3. Interviews patient and/or family to obtain required history and accurate assessment. 4. Communicates and acts as liaison between the patient, family, and physician with respect for confidentiality and dignity. 5. Charts concisely, descriptively, and legibly and includes patient's progress or lack of progress. 6. Communicates clearly and appropriately with patients and with others in the clinic environment, coordinating the needs of nursing with supporting staff. 7. Assists in solving problems related to the welfare of patients and staff. 8. Possess good crisis intervention skills. 9. Advises injured staff concerning medical treatment/ First aide only-refer to Human Resources, if patient requires treatment follow-ups 10. Examines and advises personnel who become ill. 11. Prepares accident reports in coordination with concerned staff and manager. 12. Maintains OSHA records concerning reportable illnesses and injuries. 13. Performs yearly TB immunization and updates employee annual immunization record per Human Resource protocol. 14. Ensures that employees with work related injuries are referred to outside contracted provider and notifies Human Resources Department of any IHC staff seeking treatment for work related injury. 15. Forward a completed first doctor's report to Human Resources for all IHC employees treated for work related injury or first aide. 16. Schedules patient appointments and coordinate referrals, coordinate transportation needs. 17. Rotate to Santa Ysabel satellite clinic as needed. OTHER NURSING RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Provides general nursing care treatment to patients, assisting and working under the supervision of a licensed provider. 2. Obtains and records cursory history of present illness or problem. 3. Sets up examination room for and assists in planned procedures. 4. Obtains vital signs and prepares patient for examination. 5. Administers treatments dispense medications and provide immunizations as ordered by provider. 6. Assists with patient education, emphasizing preventive measures, nutrition, prenatal care, children care with special attention to prevalent chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension 7. Works with patient advocate in screening and triaging of patients. 8. Oversees patient flow for team and department 9. Orders Rx refill per protocol 10. Supervises the medical assistants and LVN in the absence of the Nursing Supervisor. 11. Reports reportable infectious diseases quarterly 12. Ensures medical department is in compliance with CLIA and OSHA regulation and represents the medical department at safety committee meetings. 13. Active in system wide meetings, ex: CQI, Safety, Case Management, etc. 14. Performs other duties as required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. TRAVEL & DRIVING REQUIREMENTS Travel not required for this position. Driving is not required for this position. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE • BSN degree • 1-year minimum experience in an ambulatory care clinic setting. • Native American or underserved population experience preferred. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGULATIONS • RN license, current and unrestricted in California • A valid California driver's license and a good driving record will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment. • CPR certification required; ACLS and PALS preferred. • Applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam, tuberculin skin test or x-ray and urine drug screen test (to include marijuana). Health must be adequate to perform all duties of the position. • Applicants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination. • Must pass criminal background check. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES • Knowledge of management and nursing organizational theory to supervise the operation of the nursing department. • Knowledge of the principles and practices of employee development to train, delegate and mentor staff. • Knowledge of medical safety practices of employee standard requirements to evaluate existing standards and implement new procedures. • Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing. • Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations. • Skill in identifying problems and researching and recommending resolutions. • Skill in preparing records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence. • Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. • Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, decision-making. • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff and the public. • Ability to establish quality control. • Ability to plan, organize priorities, and direct the work of others. TECHNOLOGY SKILLS • Must be proficient in the following: • Productivity Software: Microsoft Office 365; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email & Calendar Management (outlook), Teams (video conferencing and meetings), and Share Point. • Electronic health records software (NextGen/QSI preferred). • Utilization of Paycom, Relias Learning, and PolicyTech systems.
