Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Staff Engineer to join our Legal Engineering team. As a Staff Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-level legal solutions that operate in a highly performant, efficient, and compliant manner. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the architecture of our legal technology solutions, driving innovation, and collaborating with stakeholders to meet the evolving needs of our business.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the strategy and architecture of our technology stack supporting the Legal Department, including various tool sets, automation, cloud access and integration, and enablement tools.
• Build and maintain a roadmap that aligns with stakeholders' needs and wants, and present a vision and strategic recommendations with clarity and concision to stakeholders having varying degrees of technology fluency.
• Work closely with the Legal Department to manage, innovate, and create new programs, direction, and analytics that balance and improve legal service delivery.
• Provide mentorship, coaching, and guidance to foster a culture of continuous learning and DevOps mindset, and champion the implementation of engineering quality to include unit testing, automation testing, security testing, among others.
• Foster effective collaboration and communication across teams to align priorities, share best practices, and ensure smooth coordination for incident response, system maintenance, and upgrades.
• Report on progress for key projects and other important measurables, and present detailed plans to mitigate identified project risks.
• Accountable for team budget, resource allocations, and vendor relationships to optimize costs and maintain high-quality outcomes.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

• Proven experience in a technology leadership role supporting legal, risk & compliance, regulatory, or similar teams.
• Knowledge of cloud computing technologies, concepts, security best practices, and compliance standards.
• Leadership and team management skills with a passion for mentoring and fostering professional growth.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for driving operational efficiency and automation.
• Fluency with at least one modern language such as Python, Java, Go, and experience with open-source software.
• Fluency with at least two of the following: .NET, HTML-5, JavaScript/TypeScript, XML, JSON, RESTful Web Services, and Event-Driven Architectures.
• Experience developing and deploying applications in AWS or similar public cloud environments.
• Experience with application monitoring tools and performance assessments.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

• 6+ years of software architecture and development/coding experience.
• 4+ years of experience with systems architecture and design.
• 4+ years of development in a large-scale, mission-critical environment.
• 2+ years of experience with automated testing, including Unit, Integration, and End-to-End functional testing.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
