Senior Manager, State Tax

Description BBNC is seeking a Senior Manager, State Tax who will be responsible for independently managing the state and local income and franchise tax compliance for a large, multi-entity organization. This senior individual contributor role serves as the Vice President of Tax’s primary execution partner for state tax matters. If in Anchorage, a hybrid schedule will be used. Outside of Anchorage, this will be a remote position.   Key Responsibilities - Manage state income and franchise tax filings across multiple entities and jurisdictions for corporate and pass-through (partnership) entities - Oversee outsourced compliance and review workpapers and returns - Advise on state impacts related to business restructuring, intercompany transactions, and tax planning strategies - Maintain, track, and document state NOLs, credits, and other state attributes - Lead the collection, validation, and consolidation of state apportionment data - Support state components of the ASC 740 income tax provision - Prepare and manage quarterly estimated tax payments and forecasting - Assess nexus, research technical issues, and monitor state tax law changes - Provide timely response to all taxing authority notices and examinations - Participate in developing protests and appeals to income tax audit assessments - Partner with accounting, finance, legal, and operations departments on state tax matters - Identify process improvements and leverage tax technology tools Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field - CPA (active or eligible) - 7–10+ years of state and local income tax experience - Strong technical knowledge of multi-state income and franchise tax - Experience with complex multi-entity structures and ASC 740 - Ability to independently review complex state tax work - Experience in managing state tax audits   Preferred - Experience with ONESOURCE, Alteryx, Power BI, or similar tools   Skills & Competencies - Strong technical, analytical, research and writing skills - Excellent organization and communication - Ability to manage deadlines independently - High ownership, accuracy, and judgment   Physical Demands - Primarily office-based role with frequent sitting and occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
