They are seeking an Applications Engineer I / Full-Stack Developer to conduct research, design, and develop software applications while collaborating with engineers and analysts to solve technical problems.
Responsibilities
• Conducts research in design, development, testing and utilization of electronic data processing software.
• Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
• Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.
• Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.
• Ensures software standards are met. Analyzes user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.
• Confers with systems analysts, engineers, programmers and others to design system and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces.
• Designs, develops, and modifies software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and consequences of design.
• Coordinates software system installations and monitors equipment functioning to ensure specifications are met.
• A thorough understanding of Agile development life-cycles and approaches. Experience with formal software development practices including the use of software configuration management, coding standards, and style guides.
• Provides technical guidance to management on changing trends and emerging products in the industry with the view to further improve existing technology and its application.
Skills
• Bachelor’s degree or technical school degree in a related field (or equivalent experience) and 0-2 years of experience
• Development experience with HTML/CSS/Java/JavaScript/TypeScript/ReactJS
• Ability to create clean, minimal, and efficient websites
• Demonstrate initiative in performing job tasks
• AZURE Certification in the developer path or equivalent
• Exhibit problem-solving skills leading to sound judgment and quality decisions
• Experience with CesiumJS or other web visualization tools
• Experience in software engineering and development
• C / C++ experience with interest in developing embedded coding
• Master's degree in computer science or related field
• Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs and other web services
• Experience deploying to containerized microservices using docker/podman/apptainer in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Experience with geospatial software packages and databases such as QGIS, ArcGIS, Rasdaman, PostGIS, etc.
• Knowledge of GIS and science data formats (NetCDF, HDF5, GeoJSON, etc.)
• Proficient in embedded software architecture and design
• Proficient in C, C++, Java
• Experience working on government contracts and customers
• Experience in developing test, simulation, or data processing applications in high-level languages such as Python, Ruby, IDL, or MATLAB
