We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Billing & Coding Specialist with proven experience working with Athena and Privia electronic health record (EHR) systems. Duties
• Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes
• Ensure accurate coding of diagnoses, procedures, and services in compliance with regulatory standards
• Prepare and submit clean claims to insurance companies using Athena and Privia EHR systems
• Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through medical collection efforts to maximize reimbursement
• Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility prior to billing processes
• Maintain detailed documentation of billing activities, coding changes, and collection efforts
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies or coding questions
• Stay current with updates in medical terminology, coding guidelines, and payer policies to ensure compliance
Skills
• Extensive experience with Athena and Privia EHR systems for billing and coding workflows
• Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding standards, and DRG classifications
• Proficiency in medical terminology, medical records management, and documentation review
• Ability to interpret complex medical records accurately for coding purposes
• Familiarity with medical billing processes, insurance claims submission, and collections management
• Understanding of medical office operations and workflow optimization
• Excellent attention to detail combined with strong organizational skills
