About the position The Accounting Officer Specialist position at the California Department of Housing and Community Development is a full-time role that offers a hybrid telework option. Under the general supervision of an Accounting Administrator I, the incumbent will be responsible for performing a variety of accounting duties related to the Accounts Receivable Unit. This includes independently posting deposits, processing reports of collections, invoices, billings, write-offs, payroll, reimbursements, and refunds. The role requires daily processing and posting in the Financial Information System of California (FI$Cal) and reconciling the system to ensure accuracy and compliance with state regulations. The position is designed for individuals who possess knowledge and experience with the State Accounting process, particularly with the FI$Cal system and year-end processes. Effective time management skills are essential to complete tasks and meet deadlines, as the incumbent will be handling multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary for effective interaction with governmental agencies and for collaboration within the team. The ability to work independently while also being a team player is crucial for success in this role. Candidates must have strong personal computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and accounting databases. The position is located in Sacramento, CA, and telework-eligible applicants must reside in California. The headquarters location will be designated based on the selected candidate's primary residence, and this may change if the Department's criteria are met.
