Job Title: Integration Engineer (DMS Integrations) – Contingent
Company: Heads in the Cloud (HITC)
Job Type: Contingent (Contract or Full-Time, Task/Customer Dependent)
Location (Indeed Field): Remote (EST/CST preferred)
About the Role
Heads in the Cloud (HITC) is seeking an Integration Engineer to own third-party DMS integration delivery (contact sync, inventory sync, order posting) for a milestone-based implementation. This is a contingent opportunity: start date, schedule, and final work scope are dependent on customer award and project needs. This role is critical-path and focused on building resilient connectors with contract testing, idempotency, retries, and strong observability.
What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)
- Build and maintain DMS adapters and integration services (sync + transaction flows)
- Define and enforce integration patterns (idempotency, retries/backoff, dead-letter handling)
- Develop contract tests, stubs/mocks, and automated integration validation to prevent regressions
- Implement observability standards (correlation IDs, structured logs, metrics, alerting hooks)
- Partner with the Solution Architect to define mapping specs, error taxonomies, and runbooks
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years building integrations with external APIs (design, implementation, production support)
- Strong troubleshooting skills and production mindset (owning reliability and operational excellence)
- Experience with authentication patterns (OAuth, API keys), rate limits, pagination, retries, and backoff
- Ability to translate ambiguous integration requirements into shippable, testable code
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS integration patterns (SQS/SNS/EventBridge, Step Functions)
- Experience integrating with ERP/DMS/CRM ecosystems or similar third-party platforms
- Experience designing integration error handling models (DLQ strategy, replay tooling, idempotency keys)
What Success Looks Like
- Stable integrations with predictable error handling and low operational toil
- Contract tests prevent breaking changes from reaching production
- Clear visibility into integration health via logs/metrics/alerts and actionable runbooks
Compensation
Compensation is contingent on award, scope, and employment type (contract vs. full-time) and based on experience.
How to Apply
Apply on Indeed with your resume. Please include:
1) 1–2 examples of external API integrations you owned end-to-end (sync or transaction)
2) Your approach to reliability (idempotency, retries, DLQs, observability)
3) Any AWS event-driven integration experience (if applicable)
Pay: $87,498.38 - $105,374.38 per year
