Job Overview
In this critical role, you will be responsible for executing strategies that support the growth of ocean volumes and enhance the development of our ocean product. Working closely with the Managing Director of Ocean, you will play a key part in supporting carrier development, pricing, analyzing carrier service, routings, carrier performance, and resolving carrier service issues. As an ocean subject matter expert, you will also provide support to sales and operations teams, ensuring that our customers receive the best possible service and that our business objectives are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and communicate strategies to increase volumes, maximize competitiveness, enhance service, and support adherence to our preferred network
- Assist in implementing pricing programs, reviewing volume targets, and developing an ocean strategy that enhances the effectiveness of sales to achieve account development and yield enhancement expectations
- Communicate internally and externally to outline strategy, market conditions, and direction, working closely with the Managing Director, Ocean, global trade lane team, sales, and operations
- Conduct regular service reviews to ensure agreed-upon KPIs are being met or exceeded, and assist in gathering, analyzing, and reporting information regarding performance and competitive activity
- Manage the annual budget, controlling, monitoring, and reporting results on a regular basis to achieve budget targets
- Work closely with marketing to develop external and internal communications specific to the ocean product, and support sales and operations as needed
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent, along with at least 8 years of experience in the international freight forwarding industry, including direct ocean experience in working with ocean contracts, negotiating ocean rates, quoting ocean rates, analyzing ocean rates, and routing. Prior ocean carrier experience is a plus, and you should be familiar with Microsoft Office applications. Excellent communication and presentation skills, business acumen, and strong interpersonal and leadership skills are also essential.
