Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Special Education Teacher (INC) to join our team in New Jersey. As a Special Education Teacher, you will be responsible for leading students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation. You will provide the instructional program specified in each student's Individualized Educational Plan, working closely with students, parents, and other educators to ensure that our students receive the support and guidance they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated, developing and maintaining a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.
- Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior, employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior, striving to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities, evaluating students' progress on a regular basis and maintaining accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
- Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy, making provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings, cooperating with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods, and assisting in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Accept a share of responsibility for co-curriculum activities as assigned, working to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relations with others, providing for your own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid New Jersey Teacher Handicapped certification or eligible.
- Strong knowledge of special education principles, practices, and procedures, including the development and implementation of Individualized Educational Plans.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and other educators.
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities, with a flexible and patient approach to teaching and learning.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to maintain accurate and complete records and reports.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Experience working with students with diverse needs and abilities, including those with physical, emotional, or cognitive disabilities.
- Knowledge of assistive technology and adaptive equipment, with the ability to integrate technology into the classroom to support student learning.
- Experience with positive behavioral interventions and supports, with the ability to develop and implement behavior plans and strategies.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students and families from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
