Engineering Manager - Interoperability & API Engineering

The Engineering Manager - Interoperability & API Engineering is a hands-on technical leadership role responsible for designing, developing, and delivering secure, scalable, and compliant API-driven systems within a healthcare environment. This role combines deep technical expertise with team leadership, focusing on interoperability, AI/ML integration, and cloud-native architecture.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead design and development of APIs, microservices, and integration pipelines
• Architect cloud-native solutions using Microsoft Azure, Docker, and Kubernetes
• Serve as a hands-on technical leader, contributing to coding, troubleshooting, and code reviews
• Implement AI/ML solutions and MLOps pipelines for scalable deployment and monitoring
• Build proof of concepts (PoCs) for new technologies and automation workflows
• Mentor and lead engineering teams, fostering innovation and continuous improvement
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Security, Cloud, Architecture)
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, PHI/PII, and healthcare interoperability standards
• Design and implement secure authentication and authorization systems (OAuth2, JWT, Entra ID)
• Support integration using FHIR, HL7, EDI, and healthcare data standards
Must-Have Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred)
• 8+ years of software engineering experience
• 3+ years in leadership / senior engineering role
• Strong hands-on experience with Python and/or Node.js
• Expertise in Microsoft Azure ecosystem
• Experience in healthcare domain (interoperability or API-driven systems)
• Hands-on experience with AI/ML or AI integration frameworks
• Strong experience with API development (REST/GraphQL) and microservices architecture
Required Skills
• Strong expertise in API engineering and distributed systems
• Experience with cloud-native architecture (Azure, containers, Kubernetes)
• Knowledge of authentication & authorization (OAuth2, JWT, Entra ID)
• Experience with event-driven architectures
• Familiarity with MLOps tools (Azure ML, MLflow, Databricks)
• Strong problem-solving and system design skills
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
• Experience with FHIR, HL7, EDI healthcare standards
• Experience with Azure AI Foundry or AI integration frameworks
• Exposure to LLMs and AI-driven automation solutions
• Strong background in healthcare interoperability systems
