Chief of Staff

The Chief of Staff is an independent contributor and operational leader who supports the President/CEO to drive execution of organizational priorities, including the organization’s strategic plan. This role is ideal for a highly organized, mission-driven professional with exceptional project management skills, a talent for synthesizing complex information, and a strong track record of supporting boards and stewarding external stakeholder relationships.

Essential Functions

• Serve as the CEO’s right hand, managing priorities, communications, and follow-through on key initiatives
• Lead cross-functional project planning and execution, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and timelines
• Develop and manage the Office of the President’s annual goals, budget, and strategic calendar
• Represent the CEO in meetings and ensure timely follow-up on decisions and deliverables
• Act as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors, ensuring effective communication, meeting preparation, and governance support
• Manage board operations, including recruitment, training, evaluation, and documentation
• Maintain board platforms (e.g., BoardEffect) and ensure compliance with governance policies and procedures
• Coordinate board participation in strategic initiatives
• Facilitate collaboration and decision-making among the senior leadership team
• Lead planning for senior leadership team staff meetings, all-staff meetings, and other internal engagement initiatives
• Lead the development of polished, high-impact presentations and reports for internal and external stakeholders (e.g., Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel)
• Coordinate internal communications strategy, ensuring consistency across departments and alignment with organizational values
• Support CEO communications during crisis response and system-wide initiatives
• Partner with the CEO and senior leadership to develop, implement, and track progress on the organization’s strategic plan
• Facilitate goal setting, performance monitoring, and cross-functional alignment to ensure strategic priorities are met
• Lead strategic initiatives and special projects from planning through execution, ensuring accountability and measurable outcomes
• Participate in the organization’s Compliance Committee on behalf of the Office of the President
• Track compliance-related issues tied to accreditation requirements for the Office of the President/Board of Directors
• Oversee contract management in collaboration with the Finance team and Compliance officer
• Prepare briefing materials, presentations, and follow-up communications for external stakeholder meetings and events
• Collaborate with external partners, including national organizations and affiliate leaders
• Partner with the CEO and board to cultivate and steward external stakeholder relationships
• Ensures compliance with all CHN and affiliate policies, as well as all state and federal regulations
• Demonstrates a commitment to CHN and Planned Parenthood’s mission related to health equity, especially centering racial equity, and deep sense of accountability to community
• Demonstrates a commitment to learning about and enhancing practices related to racial equity and the impact of structural racism on healthcare systems
• Provides positive and development feedback and accountability related to practices including, but not limited to, equity

Qualifications and Experience (Required)

• 5-7 years of relevant experience, minimum 3+ years’ proven experience supporting a CEO or executive leader, preferably in healthcare or advocacy
• Demonstrated excellence in project management, with the ability to lead complex initiatives across departments
• Strong track record of managing board relations and external stakeholder engagement
• Exceptional executive level written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize and present complex information clearly
• Strategic perspective: ability to envision and articulate long-term impact
• Poised, confident, and able to remain calm under pressure
• Ability to handle confidential, sensitive information and maintain organizational privacy
• Strong computer skills using all Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.
• Collaborative work style and a willingness to jump in
• Diplomatic facilitation style and high emotional intelligence
• Deep commitment to equity, inclusion, and community-centered leadership
• Willingness to travel in accordance with the needs of the position, as outlined in the essential functions. Compliance with all CHN travel policies, including safety guidelines while operating a personal vehicle.

Qualifications and Experience (Preferred)

• Bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired)
• Experience working with donors and board members
