Freelance Copy Editor and Proofreader

This a Full Remote job, the offer is available from: United States Freelance Copy Editors and Proofreaders Aptara is currently seeking experienced, native English-speaking freelance copy editors and proofreaders. These opportunities involve working on books and journals in the medical, nursing, STEM (especially physics), and humanities disciplines. The ideal candidate will have some copyediting or proofreading experience in these disciplines. Relevant experience in the publishing industry will also be considered. Pay rate is $2.80/page to $3.60/page depending on the account. All applicants will be required to complete a test. Requirements: • Native English speaker (US, UK, Canada, or Australia), with US residency required for some accounts. • Medical, nursing, STEM, and/or humanities copyediting or proofreading experience or relevant experience in the publishing industry. • Proficient in The Chicago Manual of Style (CMS), Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), or AMA Manual of Style (AMA). (Any of these is sufficient; at least one is required.) • Capable of working with multiple project-specific style sheets. • Able to work independently and meet deadlines. • Skilled with Microsoft Word or LaTeX and Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader (proofreaders) preferred. • Will help new copy editors with our new (largely WYSIWIG) TeX-editing program.
